Steamboat School Options

The following schools serve students in the Steamboat Springs School District RE-2 (and surrounding areas), offering a range of grade levels and programs.

Elementary Schools

• Sleeping Giant Elementary School (PK-8) – Located West of town.
• Strawberry Park Elementary School (PK-5) – Located downtown.
• Soda Creek Elementary School (PK-5) – Located downtown.

Middle Schools

• Steamboat Springs Middle School (6-8) – Located downtown.
• Sleeping Giant School (6-8) – Located West of town.

High Schools

• Steamboat Springs High School – Located downtown.
• Yampa Valley High School (alternative/secondary high-school option) – Located downtown. Steamboat Springs High is the main comprehensive high school. Yampa Valley High offers an alternative model that may appeal to families looking for a different format or focus.

Charter schools are public, tuition-free, and operate with more autonomy than traditional public schools.

• North Routt Community Charter School — serving the North Routt region. Located in Clark (north of Steamboat), gives rural families an option. The outdoor education & wellness program is a key feature.
• Steamboat Montessori School —Applying the Montessori educational approach. Located on the West end of town.

For families interested in independent education options, there are two private offerings in the area:

• Steamboat Mountain School (Emerald Campus K–8 and Mountain Campus 9–12) - Day and boarding, college-prep independent school, small classes, strong outdoor/mountain setting. The Emerald Campus is located downtown and the Mountain Campus is located in Strawberry Park.
• Steamboat Christian Academy (K–8) - Independent faith-based school for younger students. Located downtown.

Colorado Mountain College (CMC) — Steamboat Springs Campus CMC offers a broad array of programs: more than 150 certificates and programs, across nine academic pathways, including bachelor’s degrees in areas such as Business, Ecosystem Science & Stewardship, Education, Human Services, and Nursing.
